Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 02-09-2018)

Confirmed Sales:

Week to date: 80 Last week: 520 Last Year: 120
( These prices acquired from Missouri producers )

Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning of this week
in Missouri, remains light with most producers passing bids at this time.
Dressed grid sales on Thursday afternoon were 2.00 higher on a light test
at 202.00. Mondays Stock market plunge of over 1100 points and
Thursdays plunge of over 1000 points very well could have raised some
eyebrows that the possibility of lower fed cash cattle prices were in the
cards, but doesnt seem to really matter. Packers seem to want to hold
on to steady money for fed cattle this week with cattle futures likely to
have more impact on prices than the nose-dive in the Stock Market.
Steady money at this time seems reasonable with all the volatility in the
equity markets as higher prices are not out of the question given many of
the feedlots in the Northern Plains are very current. Boxed-beef values
have remained on a steady pace this week, with Choice on Thursday closing
.84 cents lower at 208.53 and Select up .65 cents at 203.79 compared to
last Fridays close with Choice at 209.10 and Select at 203.45. The hide
and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated
at 10.38 per cwt live, up .08 cents when compared to Wednesdays value.
